Tea bag packaging machine: Tea Consumption in Germany

The dominant position of tea in the world has never diminished and its consumption reached a new peak in 2016, and Germany also produced about 19,000 tons of consumption.

According to statistics from the German Tea Association, about three-quarters of Germans prefer black tea to green tea, and 60% of tea lovers prefer loose tea to tea bags.

As the cultural exchanges between China and Germany become more frequent, the German people are becoming more and more interested in Chinese tea. It is normal to see Chinese tea in some German families.

When the Germans make tea at home, they use boiling water to flush the tea leaves placed on a fine metal filter sieve. The washed tea water flows into the teapot through a funnel installed under the sieve, and finally the tea leaves are poured out. This is the unique "tea making" method of the Germans. They showed a unique tea-drinking culture to the people of the world.

Germans like to drink scented tea, and Germany also produces scented tea. But the interesting thing is that their so-called scented tea is very different from the scented tea in our mouth. Usually, the scented tea we are talking about is green tea, black tea or oolong tea as the green tea, with fresh flowers, such as jasmine, roses and other raw materials, made by kiln process.

The German scented tea is made with various petals and dried fruits such as apple or hawthorn, so it is said that it is scented tea, but it is actually "with flowers without tea". Germans also like to add some rock sugar when drinking scented tea, which can cover some of the astringency brought by the petals.

The situation of Germans drinking tea today can be described as earth-shaking. According to the statistics of the World Tea Commission in 2011, the per capita consumption of tea in Germany has surpassed that of China, ranking 7th in the world. But 50 years ago, there were still few tea shops in Germany. Now, almost all supermarkets, food stores and cafes have tea sales.
